Using the Latest News component on your home front allows you to ensure fresh content is always on the page.
To make the best use of the news feature, your unit will need to produce stories with photos on a regular basis. If you're not confident that's going to happen, you might want to reconsider using this component. Having an eight-month-old story on your home front is not putting your best face forward.
You'll need four photos for your news block. The first will be the background image, which is 1600 by 800. The other three images (350 by 218) will illustrate your three news stories.
To add the component to your home page, select Customize this Page at the bottom, and go to the drawer that will feature the component. You'll need to name the drawer, as this will be what appears on mobile devices. The Drawer Content box acts just like the Content Area boxes on content and landing pages.
Select the plus sign on the right of the blue box, which will open your component list. Select News, which will give you two options. Select Latest News.
This will open a box that has a spot for your background image at the top, and for your three news features. There are several text boxes, but the only ones you're required to fill in are the Headline, Action Link, and URL boxes.
If you’re linking within your own site, use the news node number at the end of the url of the story; in the example here, it's /news/512291.
At the bottom of the component, there will be a place for you to link to your inside news page. This is where the stories will live. You can set it up to pull in stories from Shared Content.
If you're taking people off site (not best practices, especially from your home page), use the entire url, and don't forget to select Open New Window.
If you have a story that's related to the one you're promoting, you have the option of dropping in a secondary headline into Related Link, with its url.
Don’t forget to name the drawer. This is what will be visible in the mobile view of the page.
Once your page has launched, you'll periodically sub in new items. To do that, select Customize this Page at the bottom, and go to the drawer that features the news component. Select the cog in the upper left corner to edit it.
Once you're in, delete the item you're subbing out, and put your new photo and text in. Select Finish at the bottom of the box, then save the page to preserve your work.
